Knight Foundation's Media Learning Seminar

Date:
Monday, March 1, 2010 - 9:00am - Tuesday, March 2, 2010 - 5:00pm
Location:
Miami, FL

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will sponsor the third Media Learning Seminar for U.S. community and regional foundations on March 1 and 2, 2010, on the topic of "The Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy."

This year's program will provide new insights into the changing media landscape and emerging technologies while offering concrete examples of how foundations are helping to fill their community's information voids.

Highlights include:

  • Keynote speaker Bob Schieffer, Chief Washington Correspondent, CBS News.
  • Small discussion groups focusing on a variety of topics, including:
    • New models for professional journalism
    • Citizen and volunteer journalism
    • Information as a catalyst for action
  • At the Media Learning Seminar, participants can brainstorm ideas for new projects or exchange tips for ongoing ones. Through panels and a series of breakout sessions, the seminar will highlight best practices for Web 2.0, how to employ gaming for community engagement and ways to use information to help broaden your pool of donors, among many other topics.

With support from Knight Foundation, there is no registration fee. Foundations can bring one senior staff member and one board member.

Registration is on a "first-come, first-served" basis until the seminar is full. Knight's funding also makes possible a reduced hotel room rate of $225 per night for seminar attendees available through the on-line registration.

Registration, open to community and place-based foundations, is now available at www.informationneeds.org.
