$24 Million, Five-Year Project Spurs Innovation through Challenge Grants

MIAMI (June 23, 2008) – A $24 million initiative by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will engage community foundations in a grant-making challenge to find creative uses of media and technology to help keep communities informed and their citizens engaged.

LEF Foundation continues its support of the New England independent film community with $300,000 in new production grants

The LEF Foundation has announced its 2008 Moving Image Fund grants awarded to 26 individual filmmakers, totaling $280,000. In addition to the project grants, two $10,000 Documentary Fellowships were awarded for a total of $300,000 in grants.

GFEM member, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, has created a toolkit for use by grantees in their Making Connections sites. The aim is to maximize the use of video to communicate ideas, capture important events or present community perspectives.

The Knight Foundation and the Council on Foundations co-presented this groundbreaking convening for funders to explore the community impacts of media changes brought on by the "digital revolution," as well as the increased opportunities for civic involvement and betterment. The project generated an excellent website, full of numerous resources.
